Geonames – Import

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

Having difficulties to import tables from Geonames. So, here how it worked finally:

Create table structure:

CREATE TABLE geoname (
geonameid int,
name varchar(200),
asciiname varchar(200),
alternatenames varchar(4000),
latitude float,
longitude float,
fclass char(1),
fcode varchar(10),
country varchar(2),
cc2 varchar(60),
admin1 varchar(20),
admin2 varchar(80),
admin3 varchar(20),
admin4 varchar(20),
population int,
elevation int,
gtopo30 int,
timezone varchar(40),
moddate date
);

Download allCountries.zip and run in Terminal:

$ psql -e -U USERNAME geodataportal << EOT > \copy geoname (geonameid, name, asciiname, alternatenames, latitude, longitude, fclass, fcode, country, cc2, admin1, admin2, admin3, admin4, population, elevation, gtopo30, timezone, moddate) from allCountries.txt null as ''
> EOT

Personal Environmental Impact Report

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

PEIR, the Personal Environmental Impact Report, is a new kind of online tool that allows you to use your mobile phone to explore and share how you impact the environment and how the environment impacts you.
What’s unique about PEIR? Taking a step beyond a “footprint calculator” that relies only on your demographics, PEIR uses location data that is regularly and securely uploaded from your mobile phone to create a dynamic and personalized report about your environmental impact and exposure.

Big

visits on the GEO Data Portal and theirs locations. Lots of red especially in
Europe and the US?

GEO Data Portal: keywords

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006
When searching for “geo data”, the GEO Data Portal appears on fourth
position.
Good!
When
searching for “data download”, then the GEO Data Portal displays only somewhere
between the 180th-190th position.
Bad!
